Walgreens has an organizational structure that heavily relies on being a functional structure. A functional structure means that employees are grouped into departments based off their roles and expertise. This has helped Walgreens remain successful because they are a retail pharmacy, and different skills are required for the front of the store and the pharmacy. For example, the employees in the store are familiar with the merchandise and the product locations in the aisles, while the employees in the pharmacy specialize in prescriptions and immunizations. These are classified as different departments and they each have different managers that oversee with workflow and performance. Even though these are different departments of the store they both still work together to ensure that the customers and patients can find what they need.
