Chapter 3

Walgreens’ “value chain” is driven by an integrated pharmacy led health and retail model. Walgreens’ focus is making sure that they are keeping their patients healthy whether that be offering them immunizations, advising them of over-the-counter medications that can treat their symptoms, and making sure that their maintenance medications are in stock. They have access to a wide array of manufacturers that they can order prescription medications from. With this they must keep up with their inventory to make sure that they are keeping a correct amount of a medication to service their patients and fulfill their needs. They also can order medications from other Walgreens that have an abundance in stock. Walgreens is not only known for supplying medications, but they also have an array of material that they sell in the store that brings in customers from gift cards, kitchen supplies, school supplies, and more. Walgreens also makes medications and other materials in their own brand, that way they can be competitive with the other name brands, but they are able to sell them for cheaper in store. Walgreens popularity is continuing to grow with the quality of their materials, their competitive prices, and getting shipments daily to restock their supplies.
